Functionalities:
APM System is an advanced printing system running on Windows NT2000 Server for:
- Designing off-line all printout layout
- Receiving actual printout data from external environments
- storing such data and formatting them run-time
- printing them on a variety of network printers
Components:
APM System runs on WNT2000 as a collection of Services, with accompanying Operator's and Designer's utilities
Run-time Services components are:
- Receiver:
Receives data files and writes them into APM storage directories.
- Enqueuer:
Forwards data files to be formatted and printed to their target printers.
- Format Manager:
Spawns and controls APMFormatters. Each APMFormatter runs as a background task, formats incoming data merging them with predefined layouts, and serves all the printers
- Printer:
Sends formatted printouts to printers, checking that they correctly receive them.
Available utilities are:
- Designer:
To design and test off-line printout layouts.
- Web Interface:
Web-wide utility to configure APM System, to control queue and printer status, to search stored data and reprint them.
- Config Management:
Local utility to configure APM System
- Print Management:
Local utility to control queue and printer status.
Plug-ins:
Plug-in can be specially developed and added to the standard APM features to:
- Implement dedicated formatting policies.
- Reach printers or similar devices that understand a proprietary protocol.
Available on the shelf is APMProtSmtpMail, to send documents as e-mail instead of printing them.
